On the bay of Citara, in Forio, Giardini Poseidon Terme was born in 1959 from the vision of German doctor Gernot Walde, who created the very first thermal garden on the island of Ischia where only fields once stretched down to the beach. In the 1970s, Bavarian industrialist Ludwig Kuttner took over the estate and, together with architect Fritz Zollinger, gave it the look it has today.
Spread across six hectares of terraced gardens facing the sea, the park brings together more than twenty pools fed by the island's volcanic hydrothermal springs — waters already appreciated by the Greeks and Romans over 2,500 years ago — along with a natural steam grotto carved from local tuff in the Greco-Roman tradition, a Kneipp circuit, and a Japanese-style stone soaking path.
