Gvendarlaug hins góða, located in Bjarnarfjörður in Strandir, is a small thermal bath (Hver) about 100 metres north-west of the Laugarhóll hotel, in the former school building of Klúka. The spring is protected as an archaeological site and is one of the many Gvendarlaug springs in Iceland, where it is said that Guðmundur góði Arason, bishop of Hólar (died 1237), blessed the water.
Insider tip — Gvendarlaug is a remote natural hot spring pool in the Skagafjordur district of northwest Iceland, named after Gvendur the Good from an old Icelandic saga. The pool is fed directly by a geothermal spring and surrounded by the broad fjord landscape with views across to the Tindastoll mountain ridge. Access requires a short hike across open moorland and the isolated setting means you will almost certainly have this Saga-country pool entirely to yourself.
