Terme di Levico in the Trentino-Alto Adige region occupies an exceptional place in European thermal history for its arsenical-ferruginous mineral waters — an extraordinarily rare type of spring water naturally rich in iron and arsenic compounds, emerging at 11°C in the wooded hills above Lake Levico. These unique waters, once prescribed across Europe as a tonic for anaemia, debility and nervous disorders, were so prized that they were bottled and exported to royal courts throughout the 19th century. Today the thermal establishment channels these CO2-rich, ferruginous waters into modern therapeutic programmes under medical supervision in a beautiful Alpine valley setting. The Valsugana landscape of lakes, forests and Dolomite foothills provides a superbly restorative environment.
