Terme Segestane

Polle del Crimiso are natural thermal pools near the ancient river Crimisus (Crimiso) in western Sicily, associated with the extraordinary Hellenistic history of this part of Sicily where Greek colonial cities flourished from the 7th century BC and where the Battle of the Crimissus in 341 BC marked a decisive Greek victory over the Carthaginians. The sulphurous springs near the Crimiso river are part of Sicily's broader geothermal heritage rooted in the island's position at the junction of the African and European plates, producing volcanic activity at Etna, Stromboli, and Vulcano alongside scattered thermal springs throughout the island. The surrounding western Sicilian landscape, with the remarkable Greek temple complex of Segesta rising above the valley, provides one of the ancient world's most evocative archaeological settings.
