Sources thermales de Gorelnik

The Gorelnik thermal springs are located in the Gorelnik valley within the mountains immediately above Almaty, Kazakhstan's largest city, where radon-bearing springs emerge in a scenic alpine gorge at approximately 1,700 metres altitude in the Zailiysky Alatau range. The springs have been known for their mild radioactivity since Soviet times, when the Gorelnik sanatorium used the radon waters for treating cardiovascular and neurological conditions according to the established Soviet balneological medicine tradition. Today the springs are valued by Almaty residents for therapeutic escapes into the mountain environment directly accessible from the metropolis, combining the restorative properties of radon bathing with the documented benefits of sub-alpine altitude and clean mountain air.
