Sources Thermales d'Oulmès

The Oulmes thermal springs in the Khemisset province of Morocco are the natural source of the Oulmes bicarbonate mineral water — a naturally carbonated spring that emerges at the foot of the Middle Atlas mountains at 1,300 metres altitude and has been bottled commercially since 1933, becoming the most recognized mineral water brand in North Africa and a fixture on the tables of virtually every Moroccan restaurant. The spring waters bubble from ancient Paleozoic limestone and schist formations of the Moroccan Meseta under natural CO2 pressure, producing a naturally sparkling bicarbonate mineral water of exceptional purity in a high-altitude cedar forest environment. The Middle Atlas cedar forests at this altitude support one of the largest remaining populations of Barbary macaques in North Africa — the only wild primates north of the Sahara — whose troops occupy the cedar groves surrounding the spring source, creating a remarkable wildlife context for the most famous mineral spring in Morocco.
