Sources d'Imi n'Ifri draws bicarbonated mineral water near the natural limestone arch of Imi n'Ifri outside Demnate in the High Atlas foothills of Morocco, where the spring water emerges beneath one of the most spectacular natural bridges in North Africa, a 25-metre span of limestone carved by the Tessaout river over millennia and inhabited by millions of common swifts and cliff swallows whose mass emergence at dusk creates spiralling columns of birds rising fifty metres into the air in one of the most dramatic wildlife spectacles in Morocco. Demnate sits at the threshold between the High Atlas, whose cedar and juniper forests give way to bare rocky ridges above 2,500 metres, and the Draa valley pre-Saharan landscape that descends toward Ouarzazate and the Sahara dunes, placing the springs on one of Morocco's most geographically dramatic transitions between mountain and desert. The therapeutic tradition of the Imi n'Ifri spring, used for digestive and skin conditions by the Berber communities of the Demnate region for generations, is embedded in a natural and social landscape that has changed little since the medieval period, the arch and its swift colony functioning simultaneously as geological monument, wildlife spectacle, and local pilgrimage site.
