Sources d'Aït Mehammed (Azilal)

The Sources d'Aït Mehammed are natural oligomineral springs in the Aït Mehammed area of Azilal Province in the High Atlas region of central Morocco, emerging in a landscape of dramatic Berber mountain villages, terraced barley fields, and ancient cedar forests that represent the living cultural landscape of the Amazigh (Berber) highland communities who have farmed and herded these valleys for millennia. The springs provide simple natural therapeutic bathing in a remote mountain environment accessible via the spectacular Aït Benhaddou gorge and Beni Mellal road networks, far from the major tourist circuits of Marrakech and Fez. The surrounding High Atlas landscape, characterised by painted Berber kasbahs, almond groves, and the extraordinary biodiversity of one of Africa's most distinct mountain ecosystems, creates a context of deep human and natural heritage for these gently mineralised springs.
