Khenifra Hot Spring in the Middle Atlas city of Khenifra draws bicarbonate-rich geothermal waters from the volcanic highlands of central Morocco, where the Oum Er-Rbia River originates in a landscape of cedar forest and Berber mountain culture of the Zayane confederacy. The bicarbonate waters have a pleasant mineral taste and are used both for bathing and drinking cures at the local hammam facilities. The surrounding plateau, one of Morocco's highest inhabited regions, offers pine-scented air and dramatic cedar forests where Barbary macaques roam freely. Early morning visits before 8 am give you the pools largely to yourself while the mountain air is still cool and crisp.
