Banjište Thermal

Banjiste is a thermal spring complex in the Debar municipality of western North Macedonia, set at the entrance of the spectacular Radika gorge in Mavrovo National Park, where bicarbonate-rich thermal waters emerge from the crystalline basement and carbonate formations of the Shar Mountains on the border between North Macedonia and Albania. The thermal waters of Banjiste, traditionally used by the local communities for relaxation and well-being, are set within the most biodiverse national park in North Macedonia — Mavrovo — home to the endemic Macedonian trout, lynx, bears, and wolves in a landscape of glacial lakes, karst peaks, and medieval Orthodox monasteries. The dramatic Radika gorge, the Mavrovo wetlands, and the proximity of the Albanian border in the Dinaric Alps give Banjiste Thermal a wilderness setting of exceptional natural significance in the heart of the western Balkans.
