Termales de Tipitapa

Termales de Tipitapa is a historic natural thermal spring resort in Tipitapa, Managua Department, Nicaragua, where bicarbonate-rich geothermal waters from the Managua volcanic zone have been exploited since colonial times and developed into a traditional balneario serving the working-class communities of Managua's metropolitan area. The springs, located in the town of Tipitapa on the Tipitapa River that connects Lake Managua with Lake Nicaragua, provide affordable thermal bathing in an urban-fringe setting that reflects Nicaragua's tradition of democratic access to geothermal wellness resources. Tipitapa holds historical significance as the site of the 1927 Tipitapa Agreement between Nicaraguan Liberal forces and the United States Marines, making the town's thermal springs part of a politically historically charged landscape on the outskirts of the Nicaraguan capital.
