Rara Tatopani is a natural hot spring near Rara Lake in the Mugu District of Karnali Province, the most remote and least-visited corner of Nepal, where oligomineral thermal waters emerge in the highland wilderness surrounding Nepal's largest lake — Rara — at 2,990 metres altitude, set within the Rara National Park protecting one of the Himalayas' most pristine and ecologically intact high-altitude lake ecosystems. The springs provide simple warm bathing in absolute wilderness, far from the established trekking routes of the Annapurna and Khumbu regions, accessible only by a demanding multi-day trek or small charter flight to the remote airstrip at Talcha. Rara Lake's extraordinary crystal clarity, the surrounding subalpine forest of Himalayan blue pine, oak, and juniper, and the complete absence of motorised transport in this protected area make the Tatopani spring bathing here one of Nepal's most genuinely wild and isolated thermal experiences.

Insider tip — Rara Tatopani lies near Rara Lake, Nepal's largest lake, in the remote Karnali province accessible only by a multi-day trek or small aircraft into Talcha. The thermal spring is set against a backdrop of pine-forested ridges and the deep blue of the lake at 2990 meters elevation. Very few foreign trekkers reach this corner of Nepal, making an encounter with the local Thakuri community and their bathing traditions genuinely rare. The spring water here has a mild mineral quality ideal for prolonged relaxation.
