Yashio no Yu is located in Nikko, Tochigi Prefecture, a region known for its temples and mountains. The thermal water here reaches 40°C (104°F). An indoor bath, an outdoor rotenburo bath and a sauna make up the facility.
Insider tip — Yashio no Yu sits in the Nikko foothills of Tochigi, a prefecture dotted with UNESCO shrines and dense cedar forests. The simple alkaline water is prized for leaving skin exceptionally smooth — locals call this bijin-no-yu, or 'beauty water.' Large windows frame forested hillsides that blaze with colour each autumn. Arrive early on weekends; the facility becomes popular with day-trippers from Tokyo.
