Tereziny lázně

Few spa towns can claim a history as long as Teplice's: the earliest references to its springs date back to antiquity, when Romans and Celts are said to have thrown coins into the waters as offerings. In the early 12th century, Bohemian queen Judita had a monastery built here with a hospital that made use of the spring, and by the 18th and 19th centuries the town had become a fashionable stop for European aristocracy, visited among others by Beethoven.

The water feeding today's Thermalium complex, part of the Beethoven spa house, is a sodium-bicarbonate type enriched with radon and a wide range of trace elements, the result of an underground journey of roughly 18,000 years through the volcanic Ore Mountains before resurfacing.
