Los Pozos de Caldera

Los Pozos de Caldera are natural geothermal hot springs in the highland village of Caldera in Chiriquí Province, western Panama, where bicarbonate thermal waters from the volcanic geology of the Central American Isthmus emerge at temperatures around 40°C in the cool mountain air of the Chiriquí highlands — a landscape of coffee plantations, indigenous Ngäbe-Buglé communities, and the dominant presence of Barú Volcano, Panama's highest peak at 3,474 meters and the only place in the world where both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans can be seen simultaneously on a clear day. The Caldera hot springs, accessible via a short hike through highland forest, flow naturally into primitive rock pools along a mountain stream where bathers can alternate between geothermal warmth and cool mountain river water — one of Central America's most authentic and undeveloped hot spring experiences. The surrounding Chiriquí highlands, famous for producing some of Central America's finest specialty coffee on the slopes of Barú Volcano, create an extraordinary setting combining volcanic thermal bathing with coffee culture and indigenous highland traditions.
