Chacapi (Yanque)

Chacapi Hot Springs at Yanque is a natural sulfurous thermal spring site near Yanque in the Colca Canyon of Arequipa Region, Peru, one of the multiple hot spring outlets along the thermally active canyon floor where geothermal activity associated with the volcanic arc of the Western Cordillera brings warm sulfurous mineral water to the surface in one of the world's most dramatically scenic canyons. The springs are used by Yanque's Collagua community — whose ancestral agricultural terraces, pre-Inca stone structures, and magnificent colonial church represent one of the Colca Valley's most culturally intact traditional villages — as a locally managed thermal resource complementing the more developed La Calera and Colca Lodge springs elsewhere in the canyon. The Colca Canyon's extraordinary depth, the condor flights, the Collagua cultural heritage, and the geothermal spring activity combine to make every hot spring site in this valley part of a landscape of truly exceptional natural and human heritage.
