Wieliczka is a town in the Lesser Poland region just 14 kilometres south of Krakow, home to the UNESCO World Heritage Wieliczka Salt Mine — one of the world's oldest continuously operating industrial facilities, extracting rock salt since the 13th century through 300 kilometres of underground galleries, chambers, and lakes to a depth of 327 metres.
