The Kibeho Hot Springs in Nyaruguru district in southern Rwanda emerge from the volcanic fracture zones of the Rift Valley, which traverse the thousand hills of this small but remarkably mineral-rich country. The springs produce sodium bicarbonate calcium waters long used by local communities for bathing and therapeutic purposes. The Nyaruguru plateau, at over 1,700 metres altitude, provides clean mountain air and spectacular views over the undulating Rwandan countryside. Kibeho is also known internationally as a site of Marian apparitions and pilgrimage, giving any visit a profound dual dimension of natural wellness and spiritual contemplation in one of East Africa's most scenically beautiful landscapes.
