Kováčová Thermal Park in the Zvolen district of central Slovakia draws on iodine-bromine chloride springs that emerge at 53°C from the Carpathian geological formations of the Zvolen basin — waters with an unusually high iodine and bromine content, traditionally associated with relaxation and muscular comfort. The springs were discovered during oil exploration drilling in the 1950s and developed into one of Slovakia's most popular thermal parks, with extensive indoor and outdoor pool facilities serving visitors from throughout the central Slovak region. The Zvolen surroundings offer the beautiful forests of the Štiavnické vrchy (Stiavnica Hills) with their UNESCO-listed historic silver mining town of Banská Štiavnica — one of Central Europe's finest preserved Renaissance and Baroque mining cities — and the Pol'ana biosphere reserve. The combination of richly mineralised waters and exceptional regional heritage makes Kováčová an underrated central European thermal destination.
