Sklené Teplice Thermal Cave in the Banská Bystrica region of central Slovakia is one of Europe's most unique thermal bathing experiences — natural limestone caves carved by geothermal processes over millennia, in which thermal spring water maintains temperatures of 38°C throughout the year, creating underground bathing conditions of a kind found at no other accessible site in Central Europe. The two main cave pools, known as the Knights' Cave and the Ladies' Cave, were used for therapeutic bathing since the 16th century and are still the core of the spa experience today, supplemented by outdoor pools in the valley. The mixture of warm mineral-saturated air, natural stone surroundings and the atmospheric quality of bathing underground creates an experience genuinely unlike any surface spa. The surrounding Štiavnické hills landscape, with volcanic rocks, ancient mining landscapes and UNESCO-listed Banská Štiavnica nearby, provides a richly historical context.
