Yampah Vapor Caves Glenwood

Yampah Vapor Caves Glenwood Springs is a unique natural geothermal cave complex located in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, where sulphurous steam rises naturally from underground caverns carved into the hillside and used by the Ute people for ceremonial sweating for centuries before European settlement — making this one of the oldest continuously used geothermal sites in North America. The naturally sulphurous vapour fills three cave rooms at temperatures exceeding 40°C, providing an intense geothermal steam bath experience that differs fundamentally from conventional hot spring soaking, in a mineral-rich atmosphere that has drawn bathers within a long thermal tradition since the late 19th century. Glenwood Springs is also home to the world's largest natural hot spring pool, and is the final resting place of the legendary gunfighter Doc Holliday, who came to the vapours of Yampah Springs in 1887 shortly before his death.
