Güdük Minare Baths

The Güdük Minare Baths (Stubby Minaret Baths) are a historic hammam in Seferihisar District of İzmir Province in western Turkey, in a district designated as Turkey's first Cittaslow — or Slow City — for its relaxed Mediterranean lifestyle, organic agriculture, and commitment to preserving traditional ways of life. The name Güdük Minare (truncated or stubby minaret) identifies the baths by their proximity to a mosque with a notably short minaret, following the Ottoman tradition of naming public buildings by reference to distinctive local landmarks. The baths served the community of Seferihisar, a district whose ancient Ionian heritage — including the site of the city of Teos, birthplace of the lyric poet Anacreon — combines with its Ottoman village architecture and its mandarin orchards to create one of the most pleasantly layered landscapes of the Turkish Aegean.
