The Andon Baths are a historic Ottoman hammam in Menteşe District of Muğla Province in southwestern Turkey, in the administrative centre of a province whose ancient Carian landscape — dotted with ruins of ancient cities from Halicarnassus to Labraunda, Stratonicea to Alabanda — preserves one of the richest concentrations of ancient bathing heritage in Turkey. Muğla city, the provincial capital, developed its Ottoman civic fabric over the Menteşe Emirate foundation, and its hammams served the administrative and commercial community of a city that has maintained its role as the principal urban centre of the ancient Carian region from antiquity to the present. The Andon Baths formed part of the civic bathing infrastructure of a city whose traditional Ottoman-era urban fabric has been recognised as a distinctive example of Anatolian provincial town planning.
