The Baños de la Judería (Baths of the Jewish Quarter), also known as the Arab Baths of Baza or the Baños de la Marzuela, are a 13th-century hammam in Baza in Granada Province, Andalusia. Discovered at the end of the 19th century by the historian Manuel Gómez Moreno, they preserve the remains of a bath complex that served the multicultural community of Baza — a prosperous Nasrid city with significant Muslim, Jewish, and later Christian populations — before the Spanish Reconquista transformed its urban character. Their evocative name reflects the complex religious geography of medieval Andalusian cities, where Jewish, Muslim, and Christian quarters often clustered around shared civic institutions such as baths and markets.

Insider tip — Baza (ancient Basti) in the Granada altiplano is an archaeological treasure — site of the Dama de Baza, a remarkable 4th-century BC Iberian sculpture that is one of the greatest masterpieces of ancient Spanish art. The Baños de la Judería (Baths of the Jewish Quarter) reflect the multi-faith character of medieval Baza, where Christian, Muslim, and Jewish communities each maintained their own bathing traditions in a city at the confluence of Iberian, Roman, Visigothic, and Andalusian cultures.
