Zone thermale de Sanyati

The Sanyati thermal area is a natural geothermal zone in the Sanyati basin of Zimbabwe near Lake Kariba, where lightly mineral and mildly sulphurous warm water surfaces from the ancient Zambian-Zimbabwean craton basement in the hot, dry Zambezi valley lowveld. The springs are embedded in the BaTonga cultural landscape of the Sanyati-Kariba corridor, where communities displaced by the flooding of the Zambezi valley for the Kariba Dam in the 1950s maintain traditional connections to their ancestral land and waters. The area's wildlife, including large elephant populations, and the dramatic heat of the Zambezi valley provide a characteristically Zimbabwean lowveld context.
