Borjomi Terme

Borjomi is the most famous thermal spa town in the South Caucasus, a city in the Borjomi municipality of the Samtskhe-Javakheti region of Georgia, where the legendary Borjomi mineral water — a naturally carbonated bicarbonate spring known across the former Soviet world as the digestive and therapeutic water of choice — emerges from the volcanic formations of the Greater Caucasus foothills. The original Borjomi spring, accessible free of charge in the historic spa park in the centre of town where visitors can drink directly from the fountain, has been flowing since the Russian military first discovered it in 1829 and built the first bath pavilions under Tsar Nicholas I. The Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park, the largest protected area in the Caucasus, begins directly at the edge of town, offering an immediate transition from thermal culture to Caucasian wilderness of snow-capped peaks, ancient watchtowers, and primeval Colchic forests.
