The Tamzara Baths are a historic Ottoman hammam in Şebinkarahisar District of Giresun Province in the dramatic Pontine Mountains of Turkey's northeastern Black Sea hinterland, near the deep and scenic Tamzara Valley. Şebinkarahisar, built around a spectacular castle rock that dominates the surrounding valleys, served as an important administrative and trade centre throughout the Byzantine and Ottoman periods under its earlier name of Colonia, and its hammam served the townspeople as a civic bathing and social gathering facility. The bath reflects the long tradition of public bathing in the Ottoman Pontus region, where isolated mountain communities depended on the hammam for both the physical cleanliness and the social warmth that the weekly bath visit provided.
