The Tekke Baths are an Ottoman hammam in Zile District, Tokat Province in north-central Anatolia, located in association with a tekke or Sufi lodge, reflecting the close relationship between Sufi brotherhoods and the bathing culture of Ottoman society. Tekkes often maintained their own hammams or had hammams in their immediate vicinity to serve the ritual purification needs of the dervishes and their lay followers who gathered for religious ceremonies. Zile, a city with ancient Pontic roots where Julius Caesar famously won a swift victory, here preserves an Ottoman monument that speaks to the spiritual and social dimensions of Islamic communal life in the Anatolian heartland.
